I made a poster to get across my issue and then the resolution. So the first one I did I didn’t show the shark going to eat the rabbit very well, so I changed it to show the shark behind the rabbit with the mouth open.

I also added a 3D hat to show the design better and add some interest to the poster.

Making the cloak

This is the fun but tricky part!
So to make the cloak I cut ribbon the length of a child's wingspan, and bits of ribbon to go around the child’s wrists and fasten with Velcro. This is how the cloak will stay on when you wear it.  I then sewed more seaweed shaped bits of fabric onto the ribbon which will give the effect of a cloak disguise as they hang down off the arms.  The ribbon will fasten around the neck with a bow giving a ‘bow tie’ effect.

Adding The Seaweed

After I made the actual hat it was time to make it blend in! So I cut strips of fabric into seaweed shapes so I could add them to the underneath of the hat, along them to hang down over the face.  I used glue to stick them underneath as it was easier than sewing.

Making The Hat

My first idea for the hat was to make it out of card and then cover it in fabrics this seemed messy and very delicate. It also wouldn’t be very comfortable or fit a persons head very well.

So, I went on a hunt for a plain summer bonnet in which I found this hat! 👒  shown in the images section. This is so much easier to work with, it is for children so I know it should fit perfectly and totally saves the battle of making one from scratch.

I covered the hat in fabric and put ribbon around the crown to make it more defined. I used thread and a sewing needle to attach this as it is more neat and tidy.

Prototyping

So at this stage I have made a card model of the hat so I can get an idea of what I did well, what I struggled with, things I need to change and sizing. This made me realise that I needed to make the seaweed hanging down longer and make the hat size bigger. I also found that the hat should be green so that it blends in with seaweed, as the white really stands out which is not the idea we are going for.

Concept Stage

I have drawn an initial idea sketch of what I plan to make the cloak and hat look like on the rabbit! This gives me an idea of what I’m aiming to make it look like and where to start.
