Dominic Wilcox invited to share his creative philosophy at the Royal Danish Academy

Craig Bright

Dominic will be appearing as part of Academy Talks Design, an open lecture series that brings leading international designers, artists and creative thinkers to the Academy to share fresh perspectives on contemporary design, innovation and creativity.

Following his recent appearance at the Eastern Design Conference in Slovakia, this latest invitation is another exciting opportunity for Dominic to share the unconventional thinking and creative philosophy that has shaped his career – and ultimately inspired the creation of Little Inventors.

Dominic has spent his career exploring what happens when we question the ordinary and allow curiosity and imagination to take us somewhere unexpected. From shoes that guide their wearer home to an art exhibition designed specifically for dogs and a stained-glass car of the future, his work playfully challenges our assumptions about what design can be.

Behind these wonderfully unusual creations lies a serious conviction: that creativity flourishes when we give ourselves permission to think differently, challenge conventions and explore ideas without immediately worrying about whether they are possible.

It was this philosophy that became the catalyst for Little Inventors.

Dominic recognised that children possess an extraordinary freedom of imagination. Unburdened by many of the assumptions and practical limitations that constrain adult thinking, young people are often able to approach problems with remarkable originality.

He began to explore what professional designers and inventors might learn from this imaginative freedom, and what could happen if children's ideas were treated with the same respect and seriousness as those of experienced creatives.

That thinking led to the founding of Little Inventors in 2016, and remains central to everything we do today.

Dominic's invitation to speak at the Royal Danish Academy is particularly meaningful because it brings this philosophy back into the world of professional design, inviting an international audience to rediscover the value of curiosity, playfulness and seeing the world through fresh eyes.

We're incredibly proud to see Dominic's distinctive creative approach continuing to inspire audiences internationally, and to see the ideas that gave rise to Little Inventors being recognised and celebrated within the wider design community.

Academy Talks Design: Dominic Wilcox takes place on Thursday 22 October 2026, from 16:15 to 17:15 (Danish time), at the Royal Danish Academy in Copenhagen.

The lecture is free, open to all and can also be attended online via Zoom.
