Final Model
Posted by Jismi Mathew

Once my model was complete I took photos of it with my poster on a white blank background.

After I made the parts individually I glued them altogether just like how it is in the invention drawing. The waste collector was attached to the bottom of the cabin.

After I made the parts individually I glued them altogether just like how it is in the invention drawing. The pipe was attached to the cabin.

Pipe

After looking for materials for the pipe, I came across toilet paper tube which was perfect because when I analysed the child's invention it looked more like a cylindrical shape. I covered it in masking tape and painted yellow and black stripes.
To create the bubbles onto of the pipe, I cut out circles of mountboard painted it grey and added  different size pom poms for texture as bubbles are clear. I added a stick to the back to hold it all together and glued it into the top of the pipe.

I added a purple piece of cardboard at the back to so it looks cleaner, but you can still see inside of the cabin.

Part Two- Cabin

Once the cabin completely dried, I painted it using purple acrylic paint just like how the child's invention was. I wanted the gap for the window to have a glass look to it. I used clear cellophane to act as like a window and I added that inside. I wanted to add a person in the window, I tried using card, but it was very flimsy. Instead, I used mountboard which allowed the person to stand upright.

To make the top cabin, I used the side of a balloon to create the long oval shape. I left a gap for the window.  I used plaster of Paris which is a powdery white gypsum plaster which is moulded when moist but dries hard. I cut this into strips, soaked it in water and layered it on the balloon and used my fingers to smooth it out and prevent any air bubbles . I done each layer before letting it dry completely and added more layers to get it very hard a sturdy so it will not loose the shape.

Part One - Waste Collector Base Tank
Posted by Jismi Mathew

After filling the bottle with random objects for the waste, I glued a piece of round purple cardboard on top to close off the waste tank so that the waste inside would not fall back out into the sea after it has been collected.

I cut the top off a 2L water bottle to get the straight part for the tank rather than the curved neck of the bottle. I filled the inside with various different types of waste that would be in the sea. I used chocolate wrappers, bottle caps, straws, cans, and tissue paper to show the tank collecting the waste from the ocean, just like it is in the invention.

I planned how to make the waste collection tank and brainstormed several types of waste ideas that I could potentially add to it to show the tank collecting the waste from the sea for the fish, just like shown in the invention drawing.

Planning Invention Sketch - Cabin
Posted by Jismi Mathew

I planned each individual part out by drawing them. This allowed me to explain the process on how I can make them. I started by explaining how to make the cabin and the materials used for it.
