We have decided upon using poppers on the sleeves to make them detachable and act as the cooling elements in order to have one garment with two functions. We have also decided to add the heating elements in strategic places where the conductive thread will not be affected, and where the wearer will want the most warmth.
We have created the final hoodie from black wool as it is an insulating material and colour which will counteract the electronics within. These we have sewn in with conductive thread, leading to the heat pads strategically placed in the pocket, both arms and lower back.
Making a mock up and finalising our design. We decided upon using poppers and creating detachable sleeves rather than using zips, for ease of use and quick design.
Working on using conductive wiring which we can sew into the lining of the fabric. We have first used a battery and a light source which we can replace with a heating element at a later stage.
Experimentation with colouring fabric and adding detail to create different looks, and work out the right one for the final hoodie.
Problem solving through a series of sketches and designs as to what the invention will look like, and how we will achieve this.
We have first created a rough mock up of the design, as we first collaborated as a group, using pattern paper, cardboard and masking tape. This has helped us gage the elements of the invention and has sparked ideas on how we can make this into a reality.
