Young Climate Action Heroes Shine at Stanhope Primary School, South Shields

South Shields, UK February 2026 - April 2026

Little Inventors recently visited Stanhope Primary School in South Shields to deliver a hands-on invention workshop as part of our ongoing Climate Action Heroes challenge - and the ideas that emerged were nothing short of inspiring.

The workshop forms part of a wider programme funded by South Tyneside Council and Dogger Bank Wind Farm, supporting children across the borough to explore climate change through creativity, invention and imaginative problem-solving.

During the session, Year 3 pupils spent the morning learning about our planet and the challenges posed by climate change, before being encouraged to respond in the most Little Inventors way possible.

Reflecting on the workshop, class teacher Angela Ali said:

“Year 3 have been brilliantly bonkers Little Inventors this morning. We spent the whole morning looking at the planet and climate change, then we invented devices to help. They are a bit bonkers but this is brilliant. We then made arm-wearable remote controls!”

The classroom quickly filled with excitement as pupils sketched, discussed and developed their ideas. From climate-helping inventions to playful, wearable technologies, each child brought their own unique perspective, combining curiosity, creativity and problem-solving in joyful ways.

Workshops like this are at the heart of the Climate Action Heroes challenge, which encourages children and young people to see themselves as capable of contributing ideas and solutions to real-world climate issues, while building confidence and creative thinking skills.

Craig Bright, General Manager of Little Inventors, said:

“What’s so powerful about sessions like this is seeing children realise that their ideas matter. Some of the inventions might feel ‘bonkers’ at first - but that’s exactly where creativity begins. When children are given permission to imagine freely, they start to see themselves as problem-solvers who can help shape a better future.”

The workshop at Stanhope Primary School was filled with energy, collaboration and optimism. The children’s climate-focused inventions will be reviewed and showcased on the Little Inventors website soon, giving their ideas a platform beyond the classroom and celebrating their role as Climate Action Heroes.

Little Inventors would like to thank South Tyneside Council and Dogger Bank Wind Farm for their support in making the Climate Action Heroes programme possible, and the little inventors and staff at Stanhope Primary School for such a warm welcome and enthusiastic participation.
