The Lost & Found Office of Oddities at South Shields Market

Set in the historic Market Square, South Shields Market is a lively town centre destination, bringing together local traders, shoppers and visitors in the heart of South Shields. For one day only, our dedicated Office staff will be joining the market with a selection of strange and puzzling objects from the archive.

The Lost & Found Office of Oddities is responsible for the careful collection, cataloguing and investigation of unusual items found, donated or handed in over the years.

Visitors will be invited to inspect the items, offer their theories, share any expert knowledge they may have, and help us answer the important questions: What is it? Where did it come from? Who might have used it? And what on earth might it do?

From curious contraptions to mysterious artefacts, every item has a story waiting to be uncovered. Funny, intriguing and highly interactive, The Lost & Found Office of Oddities invites visitors of all ages to become investigators, inventors and accidental experts in the unexplained.

Come and find our Office staff at the market — we will be looking for curious minds, sharp eyes and anyone willing to help us uncover the stories behind the unusual, the mysterious and the very, very odd.

The Lost & Found Office of Oddities will also be popping up at a range of other events, and running a series of workshops in Family Hubs, in South Tyneside this summer.
