International School Challenge SDG 14: Life Below Water

Markham, UK March 2026 - May 2026

This spring Somerset Academy will be taking on the International School Challenge on the theme of Life Below Water!

SDG 14

We need to protect life below water: Oceans cover most of our planet and are home to an incredible variety of plants and animals. They help regulate our climate, provide food for billions of people, and produce much of the oxygen we breathe. Life below water includes everything from tiny plankton to enormous whales, living in habitats such as coral reefs, kelp forests and the deep sea. These underwater worlds are carefully balanced, and every species plays an important role.

But oceans are under threat. Pollution, plastic waste, overfishing and climate change are damaging marine habitats and putting many sea animals at risk. Warmer waters and rising sea levels are changing oceans faster than many species can adapt.

Somerset Academy students will be taking on the challenge to invent to help protect life below water and keep our oceans healthy!
